note

will probably move to huey and maggie’s shrine eventually.

themes

maggie is a fun way for me to explore society’s expectations and possible responses to them. 🌱

maggie vs webby

here is where i try to distinguish maggie and webby, because they both act as complements to huey, but not in the same way.

  • maggie is unsettling at first because she is quietly intense, but then turns out to be sweet when she lets her guard down. webby is very warm right off the bat, but reveals herself as a force to be dealt with if you cross her.
  • maggie is more future-minded/transformative, webby likes archiving and mastery (her interest in the mcduck history…)
  • both are curious and precocious, but:
    • webby is the version of maggie who was able to safely be weird in an environment that nurtured it (having grown up in the mansion in relative solitude with people who cared for her, and then later finding friends who were cool with it).
      • she did not grow up encumbered by social norms.
    • maggie, on the other hand, lives semi-publicly because of her family, and has been subject to expectation and judgment her whole life. she keeps walls up because it feels unsafe to be herself.
      • grew up overly conscious of social norms!
